The dog-friendly options reflect that: functional, unpretentious, and spread across a grid that was once four asphalt runways laid down by the Navy in 1942. Those runways were abandoned in the 1960s—too short for jets—and demolished in the late 1990s so the neighborhoods could rise.

What that means for you: nothing is walkable from anywhere. You will drive to the park, drive to the bar, drive home. But the drives are short, the parking is free, and the dogs are welcome in the places that matter.
